Kelly Michelle Liebbe was born in Dallas and moved to Lindale, Texas, with her parents and brother in 1992. Kelly graduated from Lindale High School and began attending Southern Methodist University in 1998. Kelly was a cheerleader for the SMU Mustangs and a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. 

In 2001, Kelly moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives, Dick Gephardt. In 2002, she moved to Iowa where she worked for U.S. Congressional campaigns and the Service Employees International Union. Kelly moved back to Dallas in 2003 to attend Dedman School of Law at SMU. During law school, Kelly was on the SMU Computer and Technology Law Review. After graduating in December of 2006, Kelly joined her father at his firm. 

In 2008, following the removal of more than 400 children from an FLDS compound in El Dorado, Texas, Kelly was appointed as an Attorney Ad Litem by the Texas Attorney General. As an Ad Litem, Kelly worked hundreds of pro bono hours traveling around the state to protect the legal interests of her appointed FLDS child. 

While working with her father, Kelly has gained experience in the courtroom and at the appellate level. She has participated in several jury trials and has argued before the 12th Texas Court of Appeals.
